Pick the right support bra for tween breast development

For almost 80 percent of all girls, breast development is the first sign of puberty. It’s the beginning of an exciting time for daughters and their parents. You may have a question about how to support your daughter through this time. Here is some key information about breast development for parents of young girls.

A girl’s breast will begin to develop generally between the ages of 8 and 11 years old. There are five stages of breast development for girls, breast buds begin at stage two. In the first stage the breast is flat and has not yet developed. This is the stage of childhood. During the second stage, also known as early puberty, a girl’s breast begins to bud. The budding is a quarter size bud that makes the nipple stick out from the chest. The actual bud is contains fat, tissue and milk glands. The areola slightly increases in size during this phase.

The first bra is generally called a “training bra“. In this stage, most tween girls will experience breast buds between the ages of 8 and 11 years old, but it’s not uncommon for the developments to begin earlier or later. It’s at this phase when many girls ask for a training bra, or begin wearing camisole under their clothes. Stage two (breast buds) may last several months or for a year or more. Girls may become self-conscious during this phase, especially if their friends have not yet developed.

There are several things you can do to help your daughter through this change, if breast development happens at younger age, a girl may not be thrilled to wear a bra and might even be resistant if she is the first among her friends to have one. For starter, talk to her about why her body is changing and that this phase of development is normal for girls her age. Point out that all her girlfriends will also go through these changes, and probably sooner than later.

One of the key aspects to introduce tween bra is buying bra specially developed for tween. This specialty bra can provide proper support and comfort to a developing breast. The type of material used for the bra is also very important. If your daughter is very active, cotton or organic fabrics bras are an excellent option because there is less chance of developing rashes.

Moms can make positive experience shopping for the first bra by combining a bra purchase with another piece of clothing your daughter really wants. As your tween daughter begins to change physically it’s important for them to understand that your support and love is still there for them. Be sure you take the time to let your daughter know that you’re proud of her and her accomplishment, and that you’re excited to see her change and grow to be a responsible teen. :)
